Stoner says excessive harvesting impacts larger fish, especially blue cats that grow slowly. The current state record stands at pounds. Putting a protected slot-length limit of inches will allow the fish of that size right now to reach the next step up to be a larger blue cat. The proposal calls for allowing one or two fish above the slot to be part of the overall limit. The goal is to allow more blue catfish to reach their potential larger sizes – 20 to 80 pounds – because big fish are why many anglers .

MONEY is the problem. But the real impact will begin in 7 to 8 years, at which point the department will do a post-regulation to determine the success of the regulations. Those guys aren't hurting the population either We all have a "dog in this hunt". There are a lot of good points made here on this subject. Take a quick look at the management systems in place by a couple adjacent state's blue fisheries and this new regulation is a joke. I agree with the rest on enforcing the regulations.

Feb 6, There is a definite shad kill on Truman. A few good friends of mine are saying you can see them in and under the ice out in front of Truman Dam. If there is a shad kill up on Truman in that deeper water then you can bet they there is also a significant shad kill on Lake of the Ozarks. I wouldn't be surprised if its the last week of February or the first week of March before the water is open with these very cold nights.
Catfish Pursuit , Feb 6, After the first time Truman froze over and started to thaw, there were thousands of gulls , pelicans, cranes, and buzzards eating off the edges standing on the ice. I enjoy putting jugs out and then crappie fishing. I wondered if any of you guys have heard if they are going to do the slot thing, and what it will entail. I heard Drfishjd and a young guy who is a catfish guide talking about the subject at camp. I didn't get all the details, but it seemed they were wanting to make Truman a "trophy" catfish lake.
I hope one of them responds here, it was a very interesting conversation hearing it from their point of view. You'd think Truman Lake would already be a Trophy lake for Catfish. It's the Trophy lake for every other fish. It's the MO grenada for sure!!!
